What is Root Canal?
The root canal is the hollow channel within a tooth containing soft tissue, or pulp, made up of blood vessels and nerve tissue, which can become infected through decay or injury.
This doesn’t always mean the tooth must be removed. An endodontic treatment, also known as a “root canal”, is a safe and effective way of saving the severely injured, cracked, or decayed tooth. If it is not treated promptly, pain or a tooth abscess (infection) results.
Root canal treatment is completed in one or two office visits, depending on the presence of infection and the required treatment plan. After restoration, with good oral hygiene, the restored tooth has the potential to last a lifetime.
